Aston Villa Eye Manchester United's Harry Amass

Aston Villa are considering a move for left-back Harry Amass as Manchester United's depth at the position remains uncertain.

Aston Villa are exploring the possibility of signing Manchester United left-back Harry Amass, as reported by TEAMtalk. The club has admired Amass for some time, having originally lost out to Manchester United in the summer of 2023 for the left-back’s signature when he transitioned from Watford.

The 17-year-old England Under-18 international has shown potential at Old Trafford, impressing during his time in the youth ranks. Despite his promising performances, Amass has not yet made his senior debut for Manchester United, a situation that has been complicated by ongoing injury issues for Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. As a result, many United fans have been advocating for Amass to receive his opportunity in the first team.

Under both Erik ten Hag and interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, Manchester United have opted to field Diogo Dalot or Noussair Mazraoui in the left-back position rather than turning to Amass, despite the pressing need for depth in that area. With United likely to pursue a new left-back in upcoming transfer windows, Amass's role at the club could diminish further. New manager Ruben Amorim’s tactical preference for a back three may require the addition of a more attack-minded wing-back, potentially impacting Amass's prospects.

Currently contracted until 2027, Manchester United would be reluctant to entertain any offers for Amass, but Aston Villa remain vigilant in monitoring his development. At the same time, there are indications that Manchester United are interested in Swedish left-back Daniel Svensson, with Liverpool and Arsenal also in contention for his signature.

Additionally, interest is circulating regarding a buy-back clause for Alvaro Carreras at Benfica, suggesting a possible return to Manchester United in the near future. Meanwhile, Joshua Zirkzee appears set to return to Serie A with Juventus on a six-month loan, as he has reportedly not met the expectations of manager Amorim.

Amass's rapid development is noteworthy; he has advanced from the U18 squad to the U21s at a young age, demonstrating his skills against older players. His involvement in EFL Trophy matches against senior teams further underscores his readiness for greater challenges, and it may not be long before he earns his place in first-team contention at Manchester United.
