Aston Villa are reportedly in discussions to secure the services of Juan Foyth, the former Tottenham Hotspur defender currently plying his trade at Villarreal. Manager Unai Emery has publicly expressed his support for the potential acquisition, highlighting Foyth’s skill set and their successful collaboration in the past. "I know Juan Foyth because I worked with him. He is one player, with his quality, he can unite and play with the qualities and the performance we want to add in the squad," Emery remarked. The duo enjoyed a productive spell together at Villarreal, culminating in a Europa League victory in 2021.
Foyth began his professional career at Estudiantes before making the move to Tottenham in 2017. During his time in North London, he made 32 appearances, but injuries hindered his ability to secure a regular starting position. Following a successful loan spell at Villarreal, he made a permanent switch to the club in 2021, where he has since accumulated 120 appearances.
At 27 years of age, Foyth has demonstrated considerable versatility, adept at playing both as a right-back and a centre-back. He has also earned 18 caps for the Argentine national team, although his last appearance for La Albiceleste came in 2018.
Aston Villa have been proactive in the January transfer window, having already welcomed forward Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund and defender Andres Garcia from Levante. However, the club has also seen some departures, with Diego Carlos moving to Fenerbahce and Jaden Philogene transferring to Ipswich Town.
Currently, Aston Villa find themselves in eighth place in the Premier League standings. Their latest outing ended in a 1-1 draw at home against West Ham, where Jacob Ramsey opened the scoring before Emerson equalised for the visitors.
According to MailOnline, Villa's pursuit of Foyth highlights the club's determination to strengthen their squad as they aim for a strong finish in the latter half of the season. Under Emery's guidance, the club is eager to build on their current form and challenge for higher positions in the league.
