Aston Villa are reportedly in negotiations with Sevilla regarding a potential transfer for centre-back Loic Bade. According to MailOnline, Monchi, Sevilla's president of football operations, was in attendance at the club's recent fixture against Valencia—a match that concluded in a 1-1 draw—to evaluate the performance of the 24-year-old defender.
Bade has established himself as a key player for Sevilla this season and has earned a call-up to the French national team, although he is yet to secure his first cap. He was notably part of the squad that finished as runners-up at the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, his previous experience in the Premier League was less than fruitful. During a loan spell at Nottingham Forest in the first half of the 2022-23 season, he did not make a single appearance, despite being the club’s 21st signing that summer. His only involvement came as an unused substitute during a 1-0 defeat to Wolves in October, which ultimately led to Forest terminating his loan agreement with Rennes prematurely.
Following his departure from Nottingham Forest, Bade joined Sevilla on loan, a move that was later made permanent for the current 2023-24 season. Unfortunately, his current club has encountered difficulties this season, currently sitting in 13th place in LaLiga as they strive to regain their form.
Bade's professional journey began at Le Havre before he moved to Lens and then Rennes, where he gained valuable experience in European competitions. His participation in continental tournaments with both Sevilla and Rennes is expected to provide added depth to Aston Villa's squad. The Villains currently occupy fifth place in the league table and are well-positioned for a Champions League berth, with two crucial matches remaining against Monaco and Celtic. The potential acquisition of Bade could significantly bolster their defensive options as they aim for success in both domestic and European competitions.
