Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey is optimistic about rediscovering the form that made him a key player in the previous season, as the club sets its sights on securing a top-four finish in the Premier League. Bailey played a pivotal role in Villa's successful qualification for the Champions League last term, yet the current campaign has presented him with challenges in terms of both performance and fitness.
As Villa approaches the January transfer window, the prospect of heightened competition for places within the squad looms large. Nevertheless, Bailey remains steadfast in his commitment to proving his worth to manager Unai Emery. "I have been trying since the season started but it has been difficult," Bailey acknowledged. "I have been in a period where I knew what I needed was to get off the mark. I finally did that so now let's hope things can change in 2025 going on to the rest of the season."
The Jamaican international emphasised the importance of consistency throughout the season, noting, "Sometimes you have teams who do well one season and fall off completely in the second. But we are still there, we are still in the race, still competing to finish in the European positions. We are really happy with our process so far but we know we have a long way to go. But we are confident we can be there."
In contrast, Leicester City finds itself in a troubling situation, having endured five consecutive defeats. Manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is eager to bolster his squad, particularly in the wide and full-back areas. The Foxes are also considering the possibility of terminating the loan of Crystal Palace striker Odsonne Edouard, although this decision is contingent on whether the Eagles opt to recall him. Edouard's absence during Leicester's recent match against Villa has raised further concerns regarding the team's attacking prowess.
Bailey's determination to enhance his performance, coupled with Villa's ambitions, highlights the fiercely competitive nature of the Premier League this season. As both clubs navigate their respective challenges, the upcoming transfer window may prove pivotal for their aspirations in the ongoing campaign. With Villa's sights firmly set on European football, Bailey's resurgence could be instrumental in achieving that goal.
